Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Since this happens every once in a while, even in my blog, let me say this because I’m nice and want to spare your feelings:
IT’S NOT PERSONAL.
The purpose is not to criticize you as a person, except for when it is, and trust me: you will know when it is.
If you feel really bad about what you said or did that provoked the calling-out, it is hopefully just a side-effect of understanding what you did wrong and how it actually harms real live people. It’s a sign of a lesson being learned; don’t waste it, but don’t wallow in it either. Nobody is going to hate you if you apologize for what you said/did and don’t do it again.
Because cultural appropriation and racism are NOT MATTERS OF PERSONAL OPINION.
They are ways of TAKING AWAY INSTITUTIONAL POWER to represent themselves from the people they target: usually POC, indigenous peoples.
IT IS A LOT BIGGER THAN YOU OR I. It is, in fact, larger than our respective communities put together.
IT IS A GLOBAL HUMANITARIAN CRISIS.
