Trigger warning for antiziganist anti-gypsy sentiment.

The Canadian Border Services Agency is asleep at the wheel allowing more than 400 alleged Roma gypsies - many of whom have extensive criminal records - into the country

That is according to the Sun News (here), in an article that slams Romani as nothing more than fraudsters and thieves.

According when Romani reach the border “and claims refugee status they are detained and their history is checked out”. The problem, according to the news article is that “large numbers are getting through the border” and many of them are “stealing millions from stores and vulnerable people”.

The worst thing is that many people say that because Hungary is a “rich and generous democracy” that it is IMPOSSIBLE for Romani to be refugees.

This really upsets me. The political climate against Romani is horrendous all throughout Europe, possibly the worst of these countries being Hungary. The pogroms, paramilitary violence, shootings, all of it - but according to Canada all Romani are criminals.
